Account of my Media Preliminary filming of Price Tag

We were split into three different groups where we would film someone in the group singing the song  ‘Price Tag’ by Jessie J where would learn how to sync the music to the actions on camera. We filmed in three different areas, we filmed on a green screen, we filmed in a dark man made cave and a dim lit fire place set. I learnt more about the effects a camera can use to create artistic effects for a music video such as changing the shutter speed which creates a blurred effect when slowed down.  I played a number of different roles in the filming, such as floor manager which involved leading all the groups and saying ‘standby’ ‘camera rolling’ and ‘playback’. I enjoyed the editing process the most but i also enjoyed being floor manager where i got to lead the groups. I learnt that there is a lot of detail which goes into the filming and editing process of making a film video. I learnt that the effects that a camera can do are used in an artistic way to create a unique music video, such as a fast shutter speed for rock music videos. I also learnt that editing a music video is different to editing a thriller video, for instance editing a music video you need to edit to the beat of the music so that the change in shot fits and flows with the music. I didn’t enjoy some of the filming because it takes time and can become tedious and it takes a long time to capture about 30 seconds of filming.
I learnt that you need to edit in time with the music which I found difficult due to the music itself because this pop song does not emphasise the beat of the music but more of the vocals from Jessie J. I enjoyed the editing process the most because I enjoy the process of cutting and editing the film. As much as I found it a challenge I enjoyed editing to the beat of the music and I enjoyed the end product of our new music video.
We chose the more comfortable performers to create the best music video possible, we also chose the shots which had a fair bit of movement and action in them, we also picked a variety of extreme close ups and medium shots to create a variety of different angles and shots for the video. Next year I want to choose a genre of music that has a clear beat in the music, maybe dance music or similar music because it will make it easier for me to edit to the beat of the music.
