As a group we got all the costume and props ready for the next day. We also got all the cameras ready for the shoot, we couldn't set up in the studio because there was a music video the night before our shoot day and all the technicians were working on that shoot, meaning we had to wait till the morning to set up.
In the morning I was both excited and nervous for our shoot day, I was nervous because we hadn't set up everything due to the previous video. And I was excited because i knew that the video shoot day would be a completely different school day, I was also more excited by the prospect that we were going to make a successful music video.
We weren't able to be 100% ready for our shoot day but I felt we dealt with this problem quickly, we got into the studio in the morning and we setup the lighting quickly within an hour, we already had the cameras and props set up so we were able to shoot quickly, this was key, otherwise we wouldn't have filmed everything on our shoot day.
The studio was set up to be like a night club or a DJ festival stage, the key aspect was that we needed it to look like a performance stage for our DJ. I think we managed this well because we used a lot of lighting which flickered and flashed at a fast pace and since we used low angle camera shots we created a performance stage for our DJ well. I do feel we could have made it better by using different lighting such as circles or lasers to really create a performance stage.
We not only alternated the roles on our shoot day we also divided the roles fairly, with each of us using the camera, for instance I filmed some of the fight scene in the afternoon, I also became the directer for some of the day. We all divided the roles as evenly as possible but we knew that George knew how to use the camera better than Charlotte and I did, but we still voiced ourselves fairly and we all had a go at different roles on the shoot day.
I feel that personally I was best at directing because I felt I led the group well and as a group we worked well in creating the music video on the shoot day.
The biggest problem we faced was both timing and location, since Friday is the shortest day at school we had a very limited amount of time to shoot the whole video. Thankfully we were organized enough to have an idea the time it would take before the end of the school day. We had a tight schedule but we stayed focused and was successful in filming in time. The other problem we faced was the location of our shoot day. We left it too late in our organizing to find a perfect location for our shoot meaning we had to shoot all on campus. We knew that Hurtwood House does not look like a traditional school since it is in the Surrey Hills. We had to adapt and find a small Maths classroom and we also used a car pack for where the fight between our hero and the bullies would take place. It wasn't ideal but I feel that we were content with the locations we chose.
I feel that that the most successful aspect to our video shoot day was in the morning, because we set up the DJ stage quickly and I also feel that it we were able to create an effective video. Our DJ also listen to our demands and also suited to our video and with the lighting and camera shots we made the studio look the best in our video and therefore they are the reasons why I think that the studio was the most successful part to our media video shoot day.
On the shoot day we did film in the wrong order of the storyboard, this was because we had the hero get changed into the hero costume. We did it in this order because we were in the right location for other camera shots and felt that it would be quicker and more efficient if we did this, what we didn't realize is that it had a knock on effect later in the day, and it slowed down a lot of our shoot day later on because we had more costume changes than we thought, I feel that better organization would have given us more time to shoot our media video.
I think that we managed the actors well because they listened to us, and also acted on our instructions. They were also very patient since shooting took longer than I had anticipated. I am very grateful for the actors we used since it was cold and windy and wasn't ideal shooting weather, but they stayed throughout the day, listened to our instructions and did a great job in my opinion.
I personally enjoyed the filming in the studio, one reason was because it was inside in the warm and was also the most entertaining to watch with all the lights and music, I could feel what the video would look like with the DJ performance. I am also looking forward to seeing the studio shots in the final edit.
