What Digital Technologies Have You Used?

The primary tools I used in my research and production stage was a combination of Online, Hardware and Software digital technologies. For instance I used Wix.com. Wix.com which is an online website creater which is free and easy to use, I used Wix.com to create a promotional website of my artist. I had never created a website before and by looking at professional artist's websites I was able to research what goes into a promotional website and then use the research to create a high quality website. Another online technology I used in the research and planning stage was Web2.0, the Web2.0 gave me the freedom to investigate infomation and research for my media coursework. I also used YouTube to upload my music video to a global audience and gain feedback from the comments from consumers. I also created an animatic for my music video and I uploaded the video onto Youtube and the animatic was a useful tool for research and development for my music video because it gave me an initial idea to what the music video would look like and also tells me what shots I would use and it also gave me a basic setup to my shoot day. It helped spread out how many shots I had and it helped plan out the shoot day because it gave me an insite to the order of shots I would shoot for example we had less shots in the studio so we decided to shoot the studio shots in the morning because we had less time.

I also used hardware digital technologies such as the Canon 5D. The Canon 5D is a high quality camera which is both portible and durable, we used this camera to shoot our music video, the reason we used this was because was because it is a high quality camera and by using this camera we were also able to shoot in slow motion too which I think worked well in our music video. In my blogs I have a number of screen tests of the actors used in the video and by using a flip camera I was able to quickly gain footage of the actors and upload it onto my blog. This flip cameras were useful in the research stage because I was able to quickly film the actors but also create film footage of whether the actors were suitable for my music video.

I used a number of digital software technologies in my media coursework such as Photoshop, to create my CD digipack I used photoshop to create an immersive and imaginative cover. With a number of layers I was able to create what was an empty street into an underground dubstep gig by using a mixture of photos. I also used Final Cut Pro to edit my Music video, FCP is a simple but effective software which enables users to cut and change footage easily. To gain audience feedback on my music video I decided to create a questionaire on monkey survey and we then gained not only what our consumers thought of the video but who specifically is out target audience in detail such as age, gender, how they download music and what music they like. We also asked questions which gaves clear opinions about our music video such as: Did you understand the narrative? or 'Would you buy or download more of this artist's music?'

Results from our Questionaire

So far we have got feedback from ten people, 5/10 were female which was not our target audience, our target audience are males between 16-25 our secondary audience would be femlaes which meant that the feedback given from females was not in vain. From our target audience most of the males were in our target age from 16-25 with only one over 25, there was a large of range of how our target audience buy music products, some buy all their music digitally then we have some people who buy their products all physically in a store.

An Example of a Focus Group

The Purpose of a Focus Group

A focus group is a concentrated group of our target audience and we asked them a number of questions to find out their views and opinions of the music video presented. A focus group is a form of qualitative data where they have the freedom to talk about the music video towards each other and achieve individual and overall opinions. A focus group is needed because for us it gives us an insight into what our target audience will think of our music video.

The Function of a Questionaire

The function of a questionaire is that we will gain valuable feedback from our audience, we will also be able to find an accurate account of our target audience and we can profile our main target audience from the feed back from the questionaire. We can also find the opinions of the audience on our music video, they will have the freedom to tell us their view on the music video, what they liked, what they didn't like and what they thought could be improved.

Audience feedback

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Audience feedback is important to us because we want to find out how effective our marketing campaign was for Dj Strio. By using focus groups as a method of finding out the opinions of our target audience we will find out valid and detailed opinions of our music video. We will also look into responses from our Youtube video on whether they have positive or negative feed back. From Youtube we can also find out who watches our video and how old they are and where they live. This will result in us finding out an accurate target audience which should roughly be around 16-22 which was our original primary estimate. We strive on audience feedback to measure the success of our music video and marketing campaign.

Analysis of CD Back Cover

The pink written code stands out and highlights the promotion of well known DJs which will attract more fans to buy the CD. The colour emphasises the name and it becomes highlighted showing the audience that this is more important than the track song.

Track 4 is a VIP Remix this is a conventional idea since most songs in the dubsteo genre are edited or remixed.

The debris in the background tells the audience the aggressive and destructive nature of the music.

There is an unconventional number of track names, on average there is 11 to 12 we only chose 8.

The last song is called 'Last stand' which is a conventional last song on an album.

Thec bar code is conventional because it is on nearly every product.

The record labal is conventional for CD covers because it promotes the record label and shows the audience who the artist is signed to, which may attract audience to buy music from the same record label.

Analysis of CD Cover

The main title is a written code, it is in a large bold font to clearly show the audience who the artist is and the font is very distintive and the font hints at the genre of music.

Technical shot of the high angle audience dancing to symbolise the pace and performanc3e aspect of the music, the low angle shot of the DJ makes him look more important on the CD cover.

Written Symbolic codes of the clear sign of censorship towards the audience.

The buildings at the side of the CD is a symbolic code because it hints that the music is gritty and dark.

The lightning shows the energetic nature of the music and tells the audience that the music is aggressive and loud.

The header clearly states what the album title is, and is smaller than the main title since the promotion of the artist is more important.

The fire stands out because it is in colour unlike the rest of the page, the fire shows the audience that it is aggressive and fast.
